About Gabby
Hey there! I’m Gabby Pickover—educator, advocate, proud Spotsy neighbor, and avid pun lover.
I’ve lived in Spotsylvania for almost 25 years with my amazing husband Allen, and our beloved pup, Bailey (who runs the house). I grew up in Richmond as the youngest of five. I have a large extended family and many friends who are family. I treasure my time with all of them.
By day, I’m an educational diagnostician with nearly 20 years of experience in special education. I’ve worked with students who needed someone to believe in them, meet them where they are, and help them see what they’re capable of. I’ve laughed, learned, and occasionally cried with them - but most importantly, I’ve always shown up. And I always will.
I’m also a bit of a nerd—I earned my Master’s in Educational Administration and now I’m working on my Ph.D. in Special Education and Disability Policy at VCU. I believe every student deserves a chance, and every teacher deserves the support to give them that chance.
I don’t have kids of my own, but I’ve been an aunt, mentor, and friend to so many - my students, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. I show up for their concerts, games, and school functions. I celebrate their wins and help pick up the pieces when things are tough. In my heart, they’re all mine.
That’s what brought me here—to run for a seat on the Spotsylvania County School Board representing Lee Hill. This isn’t about politics. It’s about people. It’s about listening, caring, and doing the hard work to make sure every student gets what they need to succeed.
I believe in:
-
Supporting and actually keeping great teachers and staff
-
Building inclusive, student-centered classrooms that challenge and inspire
-
Making schools a space where families and community members feel welcome
I’m here to represent all of Lee Hill - because every student matters, every family deserves a voice, and every teacher deserves respect. I’m not running for the title. I’m running for the people.
